ACA Threads participates as Sponsor in the 2019 Rally to READ
18 October 2019 - ACA Threads was invited to participate in the 2019 Western Cape Rally to READ, hosted by the Jonsson Foundation. The Rally to Read primary school education project supports rural schools in South Africa with carefully selected resource and teacher training, encouraging literacy development and a love of reading amongst rural children.
The Western Cape Rally Host facilitates the collaboration of like-minded funding partners to support and enhance the quality of education provided in rural Western Cape schools, and to help ensure that “no child is left behind”.
The 2019 the Rally to READ programme will provide support to 62 primary schools in remote, rural parts of South Africa, focussing on KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State. 2019 represented the 22nd consecutive year that The Rally to READ programme has worked in partnership with rural school clusters around the country, with the aim of enhancing the quality of education provided to their learners. Close to 900 schools have been supported since the start of the programme.
The 3-year partnerships will aim to maximise the literacy levels of the schools’ 23 000 learners through the increased skill levels of their 600 teachers and 62 principals who are given access to …
1. Excellent training and support, provided by dedicated READ Educational Trust trainers; and
2. Carefully selected, relevant and modern educational resources.
Convoys of Rally to Read vehicles transport and deliver the materials to the schools during Rally weekends:
- Rally participants visit the schools, meet the learners and teachers and hand over the materials to the schools which are generally situated in beautiful and remote parts of our country.
- The hand-over of materials signals the start of the 12-month training programme which consists of a series of training courses, mentorship and support for the teachers, as well as for the principals.
- The progress of teachers and learners is monitored throughout the programme.
